Let's take a quick look at what you need to know for properly using an abdominal exercise machine.

Maintain Muscle Focus

The very first thing that you must do if you plan to use one of these machines is to make sure that you are maintaining a high amount of muscle focus during the actual exercise execution.

When using an abdominal exercise machine it's very easy to just let yourself perform the movement pattern that is laid out by the machine without much thought as to how you're executing that action pattern.

In doing so though, you're not going to contract the abs nearly as much as you should be, thus will not be seeing nearly the same results that you otherwise would.

Focus in and contact those abs hard. The harder you squeeze them as you do each rep, the better your progress will be.

Don't Use Momentum To Help You

Second, another big mistake some people make is using momentum to help guide them along their way. If you let yourself use momentum – or use other muscle groups to fuel the action pattern for that matter, you'll really be taking away from the total progress that you should be seeing.

Instead, try your best to relax all the other muscle groups in the body and only think of the ab muscles working.

This will help to both reduce the chances that you do rely on momentum and prevent other muscle groups from being called into play.

Slow Down The Movement

Moving along, another thing that you should do when using an abdominal exercise machine that will both increase the intensity of the exercise so you see better results as well as help to reduce momentum is to slow down.

Try and perform the exercise using a tempo of 2-2-2. This means you take a full two seconds to perform the first half of the movement, then you take two seconds to pause at the top, and then finally, you take two seconds to complete the rest of the rep.

If you do this, you can be guaranteed you'll be feeling it at the end.

There are a few different machines that can be used so be sure to try them all out so that you can see more variety and up your results.
