Best Ab Exercises Utilizing Just Your Body Weight

The best ab exercises are sometimes the ones that you'd never have thought of but yet provide top notch results.

As you go about your ab training program, it's important that you do stop and consider a wide variety of different ab movements that you can do to reach your end goal. Since the ab muscles are incredibly quick to adapt to just about any exercise you throw at them, if you aren't trying out new movements on a regular basis, you're going to hit a big training plateau.

Fortunately, there are a number of best ab exercises that will work in different ways to stimulate the core muscles and help you get that sleek and defined mid-section that you're after.

Sometimes, the best ab exercises are going to be the ones that don't even appear to be an actual 'ab exercise' per say, but yet are the ones that will recruit the muscle fibers with an absolute maximum intensity level.

Let's take a quick look at the best ab exercises that you should consider including in your workout program plan.

Burpees

The very first of the exercises to perform is your burpee exercise. Burpees are a fantastic fat burner as well since they virtually will work every single muscle in the body and get your heart rate up incredibly high. After doing just twenty consecutive burpees in a row you'll easily be able to see just why these will get you in the best shape of your life.

The nice thing about burpees as they relate to your abs is that you'll utilize all the muscles along the core to bring those legs into the chest as you perform them. If you add in a push-up while doing the burpee movement as you jump up and down, you'll further challenge the abs as they'll be used to stabilize the body as you kick the legs out behind you.

Mountain Climbers

Second, another very similar exercise to that of burpees is mountain climbers. This is another top ab movement to perform as it's going to cause the obliques to come into play as you move from side to side performing the running action.

The lower you can stay to the ground while doing this exercise, the better as that will add more intensity and get your heart rate up higher.

Hanging Leg Raises

Third, another of the best ab exercises that you should consider adding on a weekly basis into your workout routine are hanging leg raises. Hanging leg raises are perfect for working the entire length of your 'six pack muscles' and if you're sure to perform them without using any momentum, are definitely going to provide a challenge.

If you do find that you can easily perform this movement though, one way that you can boost up the intensity is to simply strap on some ankle weights as you go about doing it. This added resistance will further tax the abs and bring out that muscle definition to a higher level.

Dog Walk

The last of our best ab exercises to consider is the dog walk. For this one you simply get down on all 'fours' (your hands and feet are both touching the ground) and then move as fast as you can across the floor.

While you may look a little awkward while doing this movement, it's excellent for working the hamstrings, quads, shoulders, as well as the core.

Plus, it provides a very nice change of pace from doing squats, shoulder presses, or your standard crunch. If you want something new to spice up your workout, this exercise is a great one to try out.

How Often To Perform These
Best Ab Exercises

So now that you know all the top movements to include in your workout, how often should you do them? Contrary to what some people may think, you don't have to work the ab muscles each and every single day of the week.

Rather, if you can devote time two or three times a week to the abs and make sure that you are hitting them with intensity, this will be more than enough to see a good rate of development. You're better off attacking them much harder when you do perform your workout and then backing off and letting them rest than only giving them 50% of your effort but working them daily.

So keep these points in mind. If you do, you will be well on your way to getting a slimmer stomach with all of the above best ab exercises.
